Recipe of the Week- Fall Apple Cake

This is the perfect cake for fall.  Apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves....your house will smell like heaven! We made this the other week when my mom was here and it was a big hit!  I took some over to my friend Megan and she requested the recipe STAT, so here you go Meg!

Fall Apple Cake

Cream together: 
1/2 cup butter
1-1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 t. vanilla
1 t. salt
Mix in:
4 cups grated apples
1 cup walnuts
1/2 t. nutmeg
2 t. cinnamon
pinch of cloves -optional
Add:
 2 cups flour 
2 t. baking soda


Spray 9x13 pan with nonstick spray.  Pour in batter and bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes.  While the cake is in the oven mix up the sauce.....


Sauce:

Melt in saucepan:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 t. vanilla
dash of nutmeg
1 t. Rum (optional)

Poke holes in cake and pour sauce over warm cake. 
Serve with whipping cream or ice cream. Enjoy!
